Do You Get On With Your Ex?
- Is it possible to remain friends?
- Is your current partner jealous of your good friendship with your ex?
- Do you loathe the fact your ex is still in your life because of your kids?
Here are some reactions I have received & my thoughts to them
Graham – Strange as it may seem I get on better with my ex wife now than when we were married. We have no kids & we have new partners but regularly all meet up on social occasions.
GT: You know sometimes you just have to admit that although you like your ex partner you just couldn’t be married to them. It takes the bigger person to realise this. Good for you that you’ve all recognised this & you can get on socially.
I have split from my husband, but because of his abusive temper I could no longer be with him. We have 3 young children together & I hate the fact we still have to be in touch with each other because of them.
GT: Well done for escaping the abusive relationship as no one should endure that. I know you must hate the fact that you need to still have contact because of the kids – But you must not let the kids see this as they will grow up with a guilty feeling. When they are old enough they will be able to form their own opinions on who they value as the better parent.
Graham, My ex wife is now married to my best mate. Somehow it seems to work out with all those concerned.
GT: Everyone is happy then. Just don’t ever get into the comparing scenario!
So, In Summary…
When for whatever reason you have decided a relationship is over I think it’s good to give yourself space from each other – in time you may find you still can have a friendship – But to hate someone is a strong emotion.
