Is there a problem with dating someone twice your own age?
- Has it worked for you?
- Are you fed up of the constant comments?
- Tried it & ended it?
Here are some reactions I have received & my thoughts to them
I’m 18 & currently dating a man who is 42 – I love him but people keep telling me it’s wrong?
GT: Well it’s legal so why do you think others keep criticising you? Is it because they think he’s a dirty old man old enough to be your father? – For me it’s about being honest with yourself about what you’re looking for in a relationship – Plus at the same time he needs to be honest with you about what he is looking for. Give it time & don’t rush or be pushed into making decisions.
I’m a 26 year old woman & getting married to a man who is 52 – My dad refuses to give us his blessing on the marriage.
GT: You are daddies little girl & he only wants the best for you – Have you asked him what his issues are with your chosen partner? Give him time to come around to thinking its ok – Please don’t shut anyone out of your relationships be it your family or your partner. If your partner is a good man your dad will hopefully see he only wants to look after his girl.
Graham – I tried a large age gap relationship. I thought it was what I wanted but realised he only wanted me as a trophy on his arm. So it ended.
GT: You need to give all relationships time to bed it – Eventually we all show our true colours to our partners.
So, In Summary…
I have no problem with large age gap relationships so long as they are legal. But you have to understand others will always make snide comments. Be sure between yourselves this is exactly what you want & tell others to mind their own business.
