Can you ever take a friendship into a relationship?
- Has it ever worked for you?
- Do you secretly want to date a mate?
- Are friends out of bounds when it comes to love?
Here are some reactions I have received & my thoughts to them
I’m a lad in my early twenties & have had a few broken relationships along the way. The constant female (apart from family) in my life has been a girl I have known since primary school. She is the only one who really knows me & is still single. So do I take the plunge & ask her out on a date finally or is that the wrong thing to do?
GT: A very difficult one to call for me – I think you need to ask yourself –“ Is she the one all along that has been staring me in the face & go for it” – Or do you just leave it as friends – Only you know your true feelings & you never know she just may feel the same – Tread carefully though & good luck.
I’m now married to a man I always considered as a mate but it was the best move I made to take our friendship one stage further. We are lovers & soul mates.
GT: You know sometimes you can be close to someone & not realise that although it’s a great friendship it could also be more than that – Taking the plunge & having an honest conversation can be the tricky bit – Just be open with each other – After all is that not what friends are for?
Graham a mate asked me out once & it ruined a great friendship. Think the main reason is that both of us are blokes & I’m not gay.
GT: Well that’s a very good reason not to extend a friendship into a relationship. But just watch out that you are not friends any longer because you did not see it as that sort of relationship or was it more of him being gay? Just think how he may feel right now – Go on have a chat to him.
So, In Summary…
Friendships can turn into relationships only if you are truly open with one another. Being a friend you will know what makes your mate tick so read the signs before you make a calculated move – if they reject you it does not have to be the end of a great friendship.
