How do you keep a relationship going if you have fallen out of love?
When we get together with a new partner we often think “is this the one for me?”
- What happens when it starts to go sour?
- Is it easier sometimes easier just to stay together?
- Can you exist in a relationship that does not have love?
Here are some reactions I have received & my thoughts to them
Graham, I have been married for 25 years but have known for the past 5 I have not loved my wife. What do I do?
GT: I suppose the answer is what do you want to do? Why stop in a relationship that you do not want to be in, plus if your wife knew the real truth would she still want to be with you? You need 1st & foremost to be honest with yourself then be honest to those around you. It’s going to be a rough ride but I believe you only have one life – SO LIVE IT.
Graham- My husband & I have been stuck in a loveless marriage for 20 years, we have kids who are the only things are holding us together. Sad but true.
GT: If you both know it’s not working & you have tried everything to make it work then you must get out. All the people I have spoken to over the years that knew their parents only stuck together for them get very angry that was the reason for staying together. Splitting up the home is never going to be easy, but why hold on to something that’s not there.
Graham – My wife & I have been together for 52 years & for the past 30 of them not loved each other. We get on but there is no love, she has her friends & I have mine.
GT: Why are you putting each other through this? – Enjoy what time you have left.
So, In Summary…
I’m a firm believer that you can fall out of love with someone special in your life – I’m not saying quit at the first hurdle, but what’s the use of living a lie – Move on & enjoy life – Breaking up the home is never going to be easy but quite often is the right thing to do.
Good luck and have fun
