Do relationships get better with age?
- What’s the secret to a long lasting partnership?
- Has the spark gone?
- Do relationships take time to mature?
Here are some reactions I have received & my thoughts to them
Graham, I have been with my wife for 50 years this year & the past 10 have been the best, why because we know what makes each other tick.
GT: Great to hear – I think honesty has a lot to play with a happy long term relationship too. Your partner needs to be your best friend & there should be 100% openness & honesty with one another.
Graham- We have been married for 15 years with 2 kids & fulltime jobs. Life can get very boring in this marriage.
GT: Firstly do you love your partner? If yes then for goodness sake do something to put the spark into your relationship. 15 years is nothing – if you want it to last then jolly well work at it. Yes I know everyday life is tough but please don’t throw away what you have just because you think the grass may be greener somewhere else. You BOTH need to work on getting this marriage back on track.
GT – My secret to a long lasting happy marriage with my wife is that she & I know each other’s minds/moods so well – We also give each other space to breathe too.
GT: Knowing what makes your partner tick is so important to a happy long lasting relationship. Giving them the freedom to be themself without you is also so important. Please don’t smoother your partner as they will hate you for it.
So, In Summary…
For me, the secret to a long lasting relationship is honesty with your partner – Talk everything over with them so they know how you feel about the good things & also the not so good things you both have too.
Good luck and have fun
